Action on behalf of life transforms. Because the relationship between self and the world is reciprocal, it is not a question of first getting enlightened or saved and then acting. As we work to heal the earth, the earth heals us. ~ Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass

"Like trees in a city, the artist’s gift is processing the CO2 of unfiltered human experience and offering back the oxygen of context and meaning." When I wrote that, way back in the mid 2010's, I didn't realize the gift went both ways. As we offer our gift to others, we offer it to ourselves. More importantly, the gift doesn't come from us, it comes from the vastness to which we are connected and of which we are a part.

As we artists work to heal the world, the world heals us. This photoessay is a record of the world healing me.
